Christmas DIY {Kids Activities}

It's only 4:45pm and the world has become pitch black. You can't go outside because it's too cold and again, pitch black. You really don't want to stay inside but again, pitch black isn't very inviting. Does this sound familiar? Every year, Christmas time is the most wonderful time of year but most daunting task is to keep kids occupied. Here is an idea that will sure to please little ones and big kids alike.

You Will Need

1 Baby (ha!)

Clay
Rolling Pin
Cookie Cutters
Oven (set at 275F)
Cookie Pan
Paper Towels (for clean up)

Roll out your clay.

But before you do that, make sure you work it well so it sticks to all your fingers and your poor mother will spend the next 5 minutes cleaning your hands. It's part of the fun.

Make sure to do everything imaginable with it.

Then when you have had enough playing around and the clay is definitely not coming off your hands, roll it out to the desired thickness. I rolled ours approximately 1/4 inch but you can do it thicker if you want. Cut the shapes or just circles that you can paint later.

Also poke them with the finger some more. Your mom may realize the shapes are no good now and she has to roll it out again. Still part of the fun ha!

Maybe get a little creative with your clay and stick it into the oven. (look on your package for the directions on temperature and time)

Once you take them out of the oven, let them cool. Then decorate them to your heart's content. Example here - creepy gingerbread man.

Tie a ribbon through the little hole you didn't forget to make before putting them into the oven and hang them on your pretty Christmas tree. Hide the creepy little man somewhere in the back ha!

And once you are done cleaning of the hands of the little ones, clean up the mess that's on the table and put that precious baby to sleep, sit back and admire your work. Also, pat yourself on the back for being such a great mom. You did it!

  1. Love making these. Made them last year and they still look good. We used homemade clay and painted them with acrylic paint.

  2. Oh this is a great idea! I think I still have an unused package of clay laying 'round here somewhere. Hope we manage to get the sticky fingers part right ;-)

  3. Thanks for sharing this. I want to make these Christmas ornaments right now. Plus, looks like your son had so much fun with this. I love his photos in action and your baby girl is gorgeous in her Christmas jumpsuit and pretty red bow.
